Matters to Consider Post Probate - Transfer Assets

Once probate or letters of administration have been obtained the assets of the deceased can be dealt with. Normally assets in joint names with a surviving party will automatically be transferred upon notification of the death. However land and buildings will need to be transferred via the Land Registry. See the useful links section for assistance with registering the death of a party with Land Registry.

Other monetary assets held in the sole name of the deceased should be either encashed, disposed of or transferred to the named beneficiaries of the will as appropriate. The grant of probate or letters of administration will need to be presented to the relevant bodies. If there are joint executors both will need to sign any letters or attend in person if a visit is made to a bank or other financial institution.
